Comments needed: Support Strong Rules for Energy Projects in Oregon

December 18, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Don’t let Oregon weaken rules for energy facilities.
Citizen involvement allowed Friends of the Columbia Gorge (and others) to stop the coal terminals, stop the coal trains, stop the casino, etc.
If we don’t stop these seemingly obscure rule changes, EFSC will locate a fracked gas power plant in Boardman and then use the plant as an excuse to develop pipelines to feed it.  This not only will pollute our local air and water but continue our dependency on fossil fuels.
Oregon’s Energy Facility Siting Council (EFSC) has proposed rule revisions governing the site certificate amendment review process for energy facilities throughout the state. These revisions would dramatically change EFSC’s review procedures and should be rejected for many reasons, including:
  • The proposed rules would greatly reduce transparency.
  • They would diminish or eliminate opportunities for public participation.
  • They impose unreasonable barriers on anyone seeking to challenge specific energy projects.
  • The proposed rules are practically identical to rules already invalidated by the Oregon Supreme Court.
