Environmental Justice 101 and Upcoming Actions

OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon and Beyond Toxics will be hosting an Environmental Justice 101 on November 28, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Columbia Gorge Community College Hood River. We want to use this opportunity to engage with folks in the Hood River area about environmental justice.

The EJ 101 training will talk about the history of environmental justice and how environmental justice looks like here in Oregon. The training will also cover two current ways in which community members can engage in environmental justice, they are the
•    Cleaner Air Oregon Public Hearings – Hearings are being held across the state to hear from the community about how this new rule impact them. More info here.
•    Oregon OSHA’s Application Exclusion Zone (AEZ) – Hearings are also being held about OSHA’s new AEZ rule. OSHA is proposing that workers shelter in place while pesticides are being sprayed on them. This is no protection for farmworkers and their families who are already constantly exposed to pesticides. We are hoping to use this training to help people who want to give public testimony at the OSHA hearing on November 29, in Hood River.
