Earth Day at Columbia Gorge Discovery Center

April 22, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Outdoor activities free; museum admission still applies for viewing exhibits.

Get your feet on the ground and put your hands into action! Celebrate Earth Day at Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, Saturday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Take a native plant walk with expert Barbara Robinson and hear about the restoration project of planting and selective weeding that revived the 54-acre museum grounds.  Dig right in and get your hands dirty as a volunteer for clean-up projects. Kids can enjoy hands-on crafts that will celebrate the earth and teach them to be a good steward of the earth.

Meet with representatives from OSU’s Master Gardening and composting program, and the Master Naturalist program for volunteers interested in Oregon’s natural history, ecology and natural resources.  Friends of the Gorge will reveal fun places to see and hike in the Gorge. Oregon Zoo’s Non-lead Hunting Education director will talk about the hazards from lead waste in the environment. Learn about electric cars from the Oregon Electric Vehicle Association. Rowena Wildlife Clinic will share how they heal and rehabilitate wildlife to return injured animals to their native habitat. Tri-County Hazardous Waste & Recycling will also be on hand to share information.

See a live raptor presentation at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. with our majestic birds of prey.Enjoy a soup and sandwich lunch bar in the Basalt Rock Café, and get your feet on the ground and put your hands into action for this fun day of outdoor activities.

All outdoor activities are free of charge; regular admission for adults still applies to view the museum exhibits. This is the last week of Spring Break, so children through high school age get free admission with paid adult. You never have to pay admission to visit the Basalt Rock Café or the Columbia River Trading Co. museum store.

Be a part of this fun day and connect with others to learn how to be the change you wish to see in the world!
